Edwin OPPLER was a very well-known architect.
He designed Marienburg Castle
for the King and Queen of Hanover.
He designed eight synagogues including the new (1869) synagogue in Hanover.
They were all unfortunately destroyed on Krystalnacht (9-10 November 1938).

Painter and Engraver.
An impressionist painter of portraits, interiors, landscapes and movement in the early 19th century,
OPPLER became fascinated with the Imperial Russian Ballet after its brilliant emergence in Western Europe. He followed and caught their every movement by sketching them night after night in the a darkened theatre with a broad lighted pencil - one of the first of its kind - transferring these impressions at home in his studio to copper plates and into pastels and oils.
OPPLER’s works are in the collections of many museums including the National Gallery in Berlin, the Neue Pinakothek in Munich, and the Modern Gallery in Venice. These magnificent works are part of the
Brevard Museum of Art & Science’s permanent collection through a generous donation from Ernst
OPPLER’s great niece Susan WOOD.

Alexander married Alice OPPENHEIMER (b. 24 Sep. 1872, d. 10 Sep. 1929 Berlin)
daughter of Therese. Sculptures currently on exhibition at the
Brevard
Museum of Arts and Sciences in Melbourne, Florida.

married Chester CLARK WOOD (b. 23 Nov. 1948 Washington DC,
d. 14 April 1976 Washington DC).

- Dr. Berthold OPPLER (b. 6 May 1871, d. 6 Jan. 1943 Munich)
married Else HARLESS (b. 20 Apr. 1889, d. 15 Jan. 1962 Munich).
When the Nazis where after Berthold, Else who was non-Jewish, wrote
to EICHMAN, imploring him to spare Berthold's life because he was a) married and b) a father. The letter was returned to Else stamped "rejected".

He was eventually rounded up, put in a Judenhaus in Munich to await transport to a concentration camp where he committed suicide.

Dr. Berthold OPPLER typed a genealogy which was discovered by Susan WOOD
in the inside cover of Tagliche Gebete, a Hebrew-German prayer book, printed
in Munich in 1827, and originally owned by Rosalie
GLEISDORFER.

married Lilli MENDEL (b. 17 Sep. 1885, d. 17 Sep. 1942 Amsterdam)
daughter of Julius MENDEL, the industrialist who founded Continental Tires.

married Hildegard SIMENAUER (b. 20 Jan. 1926, d. 16 Nov. 1969)
- Arnold Alexander OPPLER

married Amy CURTIS (b. 22 Sep. 1959 Brooklyn, NY)
daughter of Sheldon CURTIS and Naomi GOODFRIEND.
They have two sons.
