Berend Hirsch (Issachar or Joschua) OPPENHEIMER
(b. 1 Apr. 1793?, d. 16 Dec. 1870?) (or b 1755 d. 1858 according to family papers).
Married Pes’chen Betty Marcus (d.1840) He was the eldest of 5 children. He became a very successful businessman having founded in 1824, the Hamburg company "HB Oppenheimer" (in wholesale watches and clocks , glass, porcelain, mirrors and haberdashery ) and in 1834 in Leipzig, haberdashery. By 1830 he made efforts to acquire larger premises at Miller Steinweg, for his business but he was denied the purchase, but in 1847, five years after the Fire of Hamburg , he built at Neuer Wall 63-67 a stately five-story building. On the two high doorways stood the inscription "HB Oppenheimer" . The building was next to office space and housing a private synagogue. In 1868 he founded a Jewish Orthodox charitable foundation guided " Oppenheimer pen" in Hamburg on Krayenkamp. He was only able to oversee the work of his foundation for two years before he died. His final home was at No. 63 Baumwall, in the Neustadt district of Hamburg and he was first buried in the former Grindelfriedhof (Grindel cemetery). 1937 he was transferred to a grave of honour in the Ohlsdorf cemetery. In his will, he designated funds for the maintenance of a private synagogue that existed at Nos. 63-67 Neuer Wall.
- Dr. Ruben Leopold (Levin) Oppenheimer (1837-1914), lawyer , graduated in 1860 in
Leipzig and was 1875 in joined the Patriotic Society of Hamburg. Together with
Philip (Paul), he took over the management of Oppeheimer Foundation from 1870.

- Dr. Philip (Paul) Oppenheimer (April 21, 1854 in Hamburg,. † November 17, 1937
in Hamburg), a lawyer, married his second wife Alice Oppenheim in 1890 (* 1846
in Hamburg), daughter of the businessman Albert Süsskind Oppenheim of Hamburg,
and Lucia Cohn (* 1846 in Stuttgart). Her sister Joan Oppenheim (* 1849 in
Hamburg) married in 1898 the Vice-Chairman of the textile company "Rappolt &
Sons" . 20 March 1942 Alice Oppenheimer was moved to a Judenhaus at 6
Beneckestrasse in Hamburg's Rotherbaum quarter. On 15 July 1942 with her
??sister Johanna, who was now widowed, was deported to Theresienstadt. The two
sisters were together housed in Building No. 13 L 425 8 h. Alice died there six
weeks later, on 3 September 1942, allegedly to heart failure.
- (I) Olga Oppenheimer (b. 1885), married to Hugo Wolf (born 22 October
1875), co-owner of the linen and cotton wholesale business , "Schoenfeld &
Wolfers' . He was on 6 December 1941 deported to Riga .
- (II) Dr. Albert Bruno Oppenheimer (December 27, 1892 in Hamburg; † 4 April 1983,
in Chicago , USA), lawyer, emigrated . in July 1941
- (II) Paul Oppenheimer (* 1895 † x May 1917 l on the Western Front )
- (II) Ernst Oppenheimer (b. 1897), on 8 November 1941 deported to Minsk,
his date of death is not known.
