I don't agree with Koch's conclusions. Though Bush will not admit it; the 9/11 commission has concluded that there was no collaboration between Iraq and Al Qaeda, and that the inspections/sanctions regime was doing its job keeping Saddam away from weapons of mass destruction.

Indeed Iraq is now (thanks to our intervention) home to many terrorists include Al Qaeda while Bush is ignoring WMD developments in North Korea and Iraq, and the humanitarian crisis in the Sudan, and terrorist cells in Afghanistan, Syria, the P.A., Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, and Somalia.

Bush is using the war against terrorism as an excuse to settle scores instead of bringing to completion the job we started in Afghanistan.

Nobody will shed tears for the departure of the Bath party from Iraq, but the resources of the US are not infinite (in terms of lives, power, resources, and goodwill), and our war in Iraq was a costly distraction from the war on Al Qaeda.

Finally, the support of Bush for Israel is only lukewarm in comparison to Kerry. Please see www.loebtree.com/Kerry/Israel.html for details on that!

Koch isn't making much sense.

Sure it would have been a thrill to hear JFK talk about his strong opinions on defending Israel. Similarly, I would have loved to hear more about how Bush hasn't lived up to his promises on the AWB, but that JFK would push to have AWB passed.

However, we live in the real world. Already, you were complaining that the speech was too long and too hurried. He doesn't have to wear his opinions on his sleeve for us to know he has them. If you want to know what he thinks about AWB or Israel it is spelled out in his book with Edwards and on his website, although I suppose you wouldn't care to read those.

Similarly, he didn't speak of his experience as Lieutenant Governor of Mass. It would be a waste of time, and could cost votes as who votes for someone because they were Lt. Gov. while there are those who vote against anyone associated with Gov. Dukkakis. Nevertheless, the fact that he did not choose this occasion to speak about it does not deny the fact that he was Lt. Gov, he will support the AWB and he does strongly support Israel.

You will have to do a lot better next time.

Incidentally, here is an interesting quote by Goss:

http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=politicsNews&storyID=5944517

What do you think of GWB's choice as CIA director?

The chairman of the committee responsible for oversight of the CIA during its two greatest failings. A man who by his own admission is not qualified to work with the CIA.

Actions speak louder than words.

Subject: Ed Koch quote

"I found it both interesting and disturbing that Kerry omitted any reference

to Israel during his acceptance speech at the Democratic Convention... I am

convinced that President Bush will never trade Israel's special relationship

with the U.S. in exchange for political support be it domestic or

international. I doubt that John Kerry and the 'Deaniacs' who now embrace

him would have the same resolve" -- Former Democratic Mayor Ed Koch of New

York explaining his decision to endorse George W. Bush.
