If only Bush supported Israel as strongly as most people seem to believe he does, I wouldn't care whatever the motivation for that support.
For example, when Sen. Inhofe (R-OK) spoke strongly in support of Israel (March 4, 2002) in the Senate, I wrote him a personal letter expressing my appreciation for his remarks.
Maybe other members of the community feel differently, I am just speaking for myself.
On the other hand, regardless of the source of Bush's motivation to support Israel, I only regret that he doesn't seem motivated enough to back up his rhetoric with strong action.
- He took no action when US diplomatic vehicles were attacked on 2 separate occasions.
- He has reduced the US loan guarantee program - penalizing Israel for 100% of the cost of construction of the wall which he supposedly supports!
- He has failed to move the US embassy to Jerusalem despite a congressional mandate to do so, and a campaign pledge to authorize such a move on his first day in office.
- He has overlooked connections between Saudi Arabia and Palestinian terrorists.
- He has allowed the Iranian nuclear threat to grow unchecked.
This poses a grave threat to Israel's existence!
When you say Bush is an outstanding supporter of Israel what is your basis for this assertion?
Don't get me wrong. I don't view Bush as an enemy of Israel and I'm sure he ranks well among world leaders in support of Israel, but he is typical of US President's who generally support Israel but are not 100% consistent.
On the other hand, I am firmly convinced that Kerry's record on Israel has been and will continue to be much stronger than Bush's.
I hope you come to the debate at B'nai Aaron so that we have a chance to discuss this more fully.
Yours, Dan Loeb

I disagree. I believe that Bush not only has pursued issues beneficial to the future of the U.S. but he has been an outstnding supported of Israel. Once the Jewish community finds it palatable to deal with the Evangelicals, will have better support than we ever had That's why they make chocolate and vanilla.
